Cleansing Your New (or old) Stones

There are several methods of cleasning stones, most are quick and simple:

1. Smudging: 'Smudging' is the common name given to the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing, a powerful cleansing technique from the Native American tradition. However the burning of herbs or incense for emotional, psychic, and spiritual purification is common practice in many religious, healing, and spiritual traditions. It is a ritual way to cleanse a person, place or an object of negative energies or influences. The theory behind smudging is that the smoke attaches itself to negative energy and as it clears it takes the negative energy with it, releasing it into another space to be regenerated.

2. Running Water: Stones can be held in running water. (This should in a creek, river, lake, or ocean, not an open water facet.) The stones can be left in the rain or water can be poured over them. Use only bottled spring water, rain water or boiled water unless it is a natural spring, creek or river.

3. Fire: Stones can be passed over the flame of a white candle.

4. Burying: Stones can be buried in the earth overnight.Burying your crystal in a cupful of dried herbs will also clear it. Suggested herbs for this are rose petals, sage, frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood.

5. Moon: Stones can be placed on the earth and put where the moonlight of the full moon will fall on them. This is especially good for moon based rituals. It is best for the stones to be outside, as glass will deflect some light, but the stones may be placed in a window.

6. Sun: For sun based rituals place the stone on earth and put it where the sunlight will fall on it for a day. It is best for the stones to be outside, as glass will deflect some light, but the stones may be placed in a window.

7. Crystal Cluster: Stones can be place on a crystal cluster and put in the sunlight. This must be done outside. This is a safe way for most stones.

Once your stone has been cleansed you will want to charge it (give it a job). Here is one method: Charging
